Funny thing happened to me last night...
First of all, snow + rain = slush. It was slushy by the time I had gotten out of work around 6pm.
As I was heading off to Lynn to attend a bible study at the Salvation Army church that Jim Aaron and I visited, and thoroughly enjoyed, I heard the DJ announcing a sweepstakes for a 7 day 6 night vacation to Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. I really started to laugh. Here I was. Stopped at a red light in the pouring rain, pitch black outside and the temperature was just reaching above freezing. How can you not see the irony in this whole situation?

Mixed Emotions
Well, maybe there is a God above
But, all that I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
And it's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it is a broken hallelujah

Mooning in Full View
It's funny how everyone and their brother were at the beach watching it together. This should happen every night. No...this is special.

Warren Criglar Fulton
June 20, 1912- February 20, 1991
He will always be remembered by this song because he always sung it.
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
The Truth about Life
2) All idiots, after reading the first truth, try it.
3) The first truth is a lie.
4) You're smiling now cause you are an idiot.
5) You will soon forward this to another idiot.
6) There's still a stupid smile on your face.

THS: St. Valentine
The lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, one of the customs of the young people was name drawing. On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl's name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry.
Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns. Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues and he believed that the reason was that roman men did not want to leave their lovers or families. As a result, Claudius canceled all marriages and engagements in Rome. The good Saint Valentine was a priest at Rome in the days of Claudius II. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and secretly married couples, and for this kind deed Saint Valentine was apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. He suffered martyrdom on the 14th day of February, about the year 270. At that time it was the custom in Rome, a very ancient custom, indeed, to celebrate in the month of February the Lupercalia, feasts in honor of a heathen god. On these occasions, amidst a variety of pagan ceremonies, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed.
The pastors of the early Christian Church in Rome endeavored to do away with the pagan element in these feasts by substituting the names of saints for those of maidens. And as the Lupercalia began about the middle of February, the pastors appear to have chosen Saint Valentine's Day for the celebration of this new feast. So it seems that the custom of young men choosing maidens for valentines, or saints as patrons for the coming year arose.

"Here's to you Kippy!"
Today I had a random thought about someone who has truly touched my soul: Kip. What a wonderful guy. He was my Granny's boyfriend for about five years until he passed away in 2005. Ironically, they met at Granny's second husband's funeral.
Kip and Granny started dating in late 2000. It was odd seeing my Granny date. I felt like she was forgetting about Granddaddy, but she made it perfectly clear to me that you can not erase fifty years of wedding bliss to your soul mate and that Kip will always remember his late wife as well. I was still getting over how Don treated her when they made their relationship official therefore I wasn't very nice to Kip in the beginning and to this day regret that whole heartily. However, he embraced me with patience, kindness and most importantly showed us all how much he loved my grandmother. That made me do a 180 on him. His family is incredible. They came to my wedding. They're like family, and still put my grandmother on a petistool.
By early 2005 Kip had to go in for quadruple bipass surgery for his heart. This was hard on everyone. However, knowing Kip was truly devoted to God, and leaned on him on a daily basis he wasn't scared at all. He showed us how sovergn God is to all of us. He later passed away that April. However, my Granny is such a strong woman and showed me the will power how to hold yourself up during those crucial times in life. She is such a role model to me but that's another day and another blog.
So here's to you Kippy. I hope you received a front row seat in Heaven because you sure as hell deserved it. (No pun intended there). I love you, miss you dearly and as you already know you have a special place in my heart forever. Oh and by the way, you still make Granny smile when someone mentions you.
I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don’t let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Girls Just Want To Have Fun!
One contestant on American Idol sang a Celine Dion song. A lot of people don't know this, but I really like Celine Dion. I think she's an extraordinary artist with an impeccable voice. I began to reminisce about singing Celine Dion songs back in my youth with my girlfriends. These were the days before worrying about boys, finances and college. Ergo, the good ole days. We would close the bedroom door, swearing that we were doing our homework, (I think our parents knew that wasn't a complete lie), but instead would blast the boom box with her inspirational songs even though we didn't comprehend the content of most of them. Grabbing that hair brush and lip-sinking made you feel like an American Idol to yourself. Ok, I don't know why I just shared that. :Embarrassmening sigh: These were favorites my girlfriends and I listened to...
-That's the Way It Is:
When you want it the most
There's no easy way out
When you're ready to go
And your heart's left in doubt
Don't give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that's the way it is
-It's All Coming Back To Me Now (This was later a great break-up song).
If I kiss you like this
And if you whisper like that
It was lost long ago
But it's all coming back to me
If you want me like this
And if you need me like that
It was dead long ago
But it's all coming back to me
It's so hard to resist
And it's all coming back to me
I can barely recall
But it's all coming back to me now
-If Walls Could Talk
If walls could talk
Oooh... they would say I want you more
They would say
Hey...ever felt like this before?
That you'll always be the one for me
If walls had eyes
Mine...they would see the love in sight
They would see
Me...in your arms in ecstasy
And with every move they'd know I love you so
All By Myself
Hard to be sure
Sometimes I feel so insecure
And loves so distant and obscure
Remains the cure
All by myself
Don't wanna be
All by myself
Anymore
All by myself
Don't wanna live
All by myself
-The Power Of Love
'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can
We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love
-Because You Loved Me
You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me
