Easter

I love Easter. It touches me emotionally than any other holiday. It's the message behind it that is so blunt, and true that you can't fake any remorse.

Jim and I went to Vermont for the weekend and visited his mom's church for an Easter service. Personally, you don't have to attend a church service in order to comprehend the story behind Easter. It's truly powerful in its own matter. Ergo, I'm blessed and truly thankful for growing up in a church that celebrated Easter with the whole nine yards.

We sang this song this morning and it literally put me in tears. Not obvious ones, but visible. With everything that is personally going on in out life, we still are truly blessed by what God has done with our marriage, our jobs, and our personal relationship with him.

Everyone needs compassion,
Love that's never failing;
Let mercy fall on me.

Everyone needs forgiveness,
The kindness of a Saviour;
The Hope of nations.

Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.

Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.

So take me as You find me,
All my fears and failures,
Fill my life again.

I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in,
Now I surrender.

My Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.
Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.

Shine your light and let the whole world see,
We're singing for the glory of the risen King...Jesus (x2)

My Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.
Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.

My Saviour, you can move the mountains,
You are mighty to save,
You are mighty to save.
Forever, Author of Salvation,
You rose and conquered the grave,
Yes you conquered the grave

Children...

...I'll never have them. I just need to realize this.

Valentine's Day

Once you're married you are guaranteed to have a Valentine every year. However, I remember Valentine's Day when you are too young to date, but too old to spend the day with your parents. Thirteen. What an awkward age. Every Valentine's Day my dad would hand write a poem for my mom, sister and I expressing his appreciation towards each of us in many different ways.

This is what I vividly remember Valentine's Day being about. I wish I still had those poems not because of the talent, time and productivity that was put into them, but from the love he showed us and still does everyday. I hope Jim can pass this tradition onto our children someday when they are able to comprehend the significance and meaning of what Valentine's Day really is about.

Filling Virgin

I got my first filling this morning. I have gone twenty-five years without having a cavity (thanks fluoride treatment) and then all of a sudden the dental hygienist gave me the news last week. Actually they have been scrutinizing this cavity for a year now, however my enamel is so thick it has actually taken a full year for the cavity to get through to the tooth.

The procedure itself only took thirty minutes and my mouth was completely numb. It's always comical going to the dentist to begin with because of the fact you have so many gadgets in your mouth and the dentist decides to start small talk with you. You lay there as the two dentists hand over special tools to each other and all you can do is listen to the horrendous sound it makes.

This wasn't even a candy cavity. Just a flossing one, which the doctor subtly told me. More flossing for me!

Counting My Blessings

Whenever I'm feeling blue about something, or I really don't think straight about a situation, Jim makes sure I talk to my mom. Although he does a good job of supporting my actions and encouraging me, my mom always brings me down to earth. Yesterday a found out some news about a family member, and I didn't take it well. I talked to my mom and she told me to, "count your blessings." God has given Jim and I two stable jobs, a house, two working cars, food on the table every night, and encourages us everyday to make the most of it.

It's our natural instinct to get jealous, prideful, or just mean when someone gets what you have been striving for. However, we always need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. God gives us the strength to accomplish struggles in our daily lives. He is our strength when we are weak, he is the treasure that we seek.

And so I am counting my blessings. I'm happy for this family member. I'm happy that what's coming her way will make her even happier.

“When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.” 1 Corinthians 15:28
